The Financial Podcast is one of the newest financial publications available. I had a chance to look over some of the content on the site and I'm impressed with some of the insights that are included. If you're looking for a good informal introduction to investing or finance, this might be a great place to start.
The Financial Podcast is hosted by Peter Thiel, an entrepreneur and academic. He is currently a Visiting scholar at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Prior to that he was co-founded PayPal and served as a partner in Yahoo! Answers. In addition to his role as a podcaster, Mr. Thielsch has also been active in the financial blogging world, particularly his roles at AWeber and Quickbooks.
One of the things that struck me about The Financial Podcast you can listen is its conversational nature. This isn't your traditional finance magazine; rather it's more of an informal educational experience with entertaining interviews with people in the financial industry. There's no investment in becoming a financial expert through The Financial Podcast, instead it's more of an opportunity to learn about the industry from the perspective of those who own and operate businesses within it.
Mr. Thielsch is well aware that many entrepreneurs are wary of speaking with an outside source about their business. Part of this is due to fear of judgment or even retribution. However, through The Financial Podcast, he is able to shed some light on the business practices of some large financial corporations, thereby providing a counterpoint to the oft-stated claim that small businesses are "invincible". By doing so, this shows the importance of being open and transparent about one's business practices.
While not strictly an educational resource, I think that wealthability podcast has been successful in its goal to appeal to the ears of a broader audience. Although the style may be different than a traditional finance magazine, I feel that its goal of imparting useful information is well achieved. And, of course, Peter Thielsch is a very engaging personality, able to draw attention and interest from all who listen. He speaks clearly and forcefully, often using humor to get his points across. But most of all, his knowledge of the financial industry and practicality shines through in his interviews and reports, which make for a great companion piece to any business book or website.
In short, this is a solid introduction to the world of finance. The Financial Podcast does a good job of covering important topics in a clear and interesting manner. However, if you are looking for something more in-depth, I would recommend looking elsewhere. This isn't a book I would recommend purchasing to begin with, nor would be someone I would recommend looking for reviews of the book. If you are interested in learning more about how you can profit from your own business, then this is a good introduction, however I would consider reading other more in-depth books on the topic first.
